    MATCH PREVIEW

    MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Hamburg won three matches in eight days last week to take a commanding lead at the top of the league table. Though Daniel Thioune’s team trailed visiting Wurzburger Kickers at the break, Simon Terodde delivered a brace to turn the match around. Team captain Tim Leibold, returning from adductor issues that cost him the first two matches after the international break, punctuated the victory with an added time goal. Hamburg has now won all five of its league matches this season and also leads the league with 13 goals scored and a plus-eight goal differential.

For the second time this season, St. Pauli used the final ten minutes of play to turn a two-goal deficit into a 2-2 draw. Timo Schultz´s side managed the task in the season-opening draw at Bochum. Last weekend, St. Pauli got a 80th-minute goal from Rico Benatelli before a late penalty put Rodrigo Zalazar at the spot, from where he delivered the equalizer. Schultz praised his team’s drive and morale in the face of a deficit, but will certainly want to see better results from the first 80 minutes of play.

Though St. Pauli tips free soccer managed two upset victories last season, Hamburg will be a heavy favorite in this match, even with the nature of the derby in mind. Hamburg is on a roll right now. Don’t expect that to change this weekend.

    HEAD TO HEAD

St. Pauli won both meetings with their crosstown rival last season, both by a 2-0 final score.
